Video: Hinson Motorsports releases own official vid of 230-mph twin-turbo Corvette crash
Filed under: Aftermarket, Coupe, Performance, Videos, Chevrolet, Racing
Over the weekend, we showed you a horrifying series pf pictures from Hinson Motorsports' 230-mile-per-hour crash at the Texas Mile. The tuner's twin-turbo Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was trying to break its own 224-mph standing-mile record for Corvettes when something went badly awry.
Even now, nobody's quite sure what caused the nearly 2,000-horsepower Vette to go airborne, but it did, rolling several times before coming to rest on its wheels. The new video after the jump offers multiple perspectives on the crash as it happened, and it looks much more violent in the videos than it did in the earlier video footage and stills we saw.
Once again, the driver somehow managed to walk away from the crash unharmed, and Hinson has promised to come back with another entry in the Fall.

Video: Virtual tour of Cobo Center, the Detroit Auto Show's proposed new home
Filed under: Detroit Auto Show, Videos, Design/Style
Each year, we know four U.S trips are etched in stone, the Detroit Auto Show, Los Angeles Auto Show, Chicago Auto Show and the New York Auto Show. But even though Detroit is the biggest show in terms of vehicle unveilings, the facility that houses the event just isn't cutting it. Detroit's Cobo Hall features cramped quarters, leaky ceilings, escalators that never seem to work and a basement that smells. And after the assembled press leaves Cobo, hundreds of thousands of show-goers get to experience both the best and the worst of Cobo for themselves.
The bleak and dreary exposition space will finally get its long-overdue rehab starting later this year, with a scheduled completion date in 2014. Planners have worked out another 125,000 square feet of floor space. There will be a massive digital video screen outside Cobo's main entrance. Walls have been replaced with glass that overlooks the river. It all looks very impressive, and you can see the graphically stimulating four minute-long virtual tour for yourself by hitting the jump. As an added bonus, be on the lookout for the late 1990s/early 2000s Pontiac Firebird with Ram Air lurking on the expanded show floor and note the laughably blue water in the Detroit River. Hat tip to BJ!

William and Kate royal wedding ride a protest-damaged Rolls-Royce
Filed under: Sedan, Etc., Europe, Rolls-Royce, Celebrities, Luxury
When Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot on April 29, the bride will ride to Westminster Abbey in a 1977 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI that student protesters attacked on December 9. The car, carrying Prince Charles and his wife Camilla at the time, suffered a broken window and new two-tone paint job. Follow the jump for some video footage of how the attack went down.
According to Alex Garty, the transport manager at Buckingham Palace, the car is being repaired as we speak and will be ready for the April 29 nuptials. Garty says the car is getting a quick freshening while it's being repaired, just to make sure it's looking its best for the royal bride.
Once the knot has been tied, William and Kate will proceed back to Buckingham Palace in an open-top 1902 State Landau carriage, provided it isn't raining. The same State Landau also took Prince Charles to St. Paul's Cathedral for his 1981 wedding to Princess Diana.
If the weather doesn't cooperate, the royal couple will ride in an 1881 Glass Coach, which is usually the vehicle of choice for royal brides to get to the church.

2012 Triumph Street Triple goes bug-eyed
If you've been waiting to see Triumph translate some of the more impressive changes the company made to its Speed Triple this year to the more modest Street Triple and Street Triple R, wait no more. The bike maker has dropped a few photos and details on the 2012 model-year and it should come packing updates borrowed from its bigger brother. Those include a startling pair of new headlights, aluminum handle bars and engine case cover. Speaking of the mighty three cylinder nestled between the frame, Triumph has dialed up the power to 106 ponies and 50 pound-feet of torque.
There's no word on whether Triumph was able to shave any weight from the bike, but the three-pot should have no problem moving both rider and machine down the road in a hurry. Asphalt & Rubber reports that prices for the 2012 model are the same in France, which means the company may keep the MSRP flat for American buyers as well.

Lewis Hamilton and David Hobbscap confirmed for CARS 2
Filed under: Etc., Jaguar, Celebrities
The seemingly endless rollout of new characters appearing in Pixar's upcoming CARS 2 continues today with two new vehicles, one another Autoblog exclusive. That vehicle is none other than Lewis Hamilton, the only character we can think of so far whose name hasn't been changed for the film.
The Formula One superstar will appear in the CARS sequel, set to open on June 24th in theaters nationwide, playing a "sleek and seriously fast #2 Grand Touring Sports champion." Having grown up learning Karate and winning Karting championships, Hamilton's character steps onto the international stage as Britain's representative in the World Grand Prix. Follow the jump to see Lewis Hamilton's CARS 2 character in our exclusive video turntable.
Next up is David Hobbscap, voiced by British F1 announcer David Hobbs. Hobbscap is a 1963 Coombs Lightweight Jaguar E-type, who Car and Driver reports has 20 Le Mans starts under his beltline and retired from racing to become a broadcaster, just like his human counterpart.
Hobbscap will join Darrell Cartrip and yet-to-be-revealed Brent Mustangberger on the three-car commentary team for the World Grand Prix in the film. Check out a screen capture off all three lifted from the official trailer after the jump.
